choosing between Edexcel IGCSE English Language Spec A & B

Here’s what I’d consider when choosing an IGCSE English Language Specification...

Question and content style

• Edexcel Spec A has an Anthology of exam texts that students pre study

• There are some more ‘‘Literature’ style texts and questions for Spec A

• Spec B is all Unseen texts which tend to be more literal

Exam Length

• Edexcel IGCSE English Language Spec A: 2 papers

• (Paper 1 = 2 hours 15 minutes/ Paper 2 = 1 hour 30 minutes)

• Edexcel IGCSE English Language Spec B: 1 paper (3 hours)

Assessment Methods:

Some Specifications offer both paper based and ‘on screen’ assessment options.

Remote Invigilation has been introduced for some papers (this is updated year-on-year)
